Pacific Coast iris need a lime-free soil and, in warm areas, should be planted in a mostly shady area. Good drainage is very important; try to plant on raised beds, mounds or slopes or use a lot of gritty material in the hole. Feed them early in the spring with a Camellia/Azalea food or a liquid such as Miracle-Grow for acid plants. After their first year they require very little summer water. NEVER water in the heat of the day.

We like to trim the foilage back to the new growth in the fall to keep the plants looking clean. Insects or disease are rarely a problem. If you wish to divide or move your plants, do it in late November or December after they show their new white root growth. Doing so at other times can be fatal and is not recommended.
