History of
Hawaiian Shirts
The first Hawaiian shirts were made in the 1930's by a tailor in Honolulu.
In 1947 the city government of Honolulu actually encouraged people to wear
Hawaiian shirts and Hawaiian dresses between June and October as a way to
beat the summer heat. Through the decades, movie and television stars such
as Burt Lancaster, Ginger Rogers, Elvis Presley, and Tom Selleck have
popularized these shirts and dresses. Aloha wear is everyday-wear in
