padThe Art of March Fong Eu

I have devoted a lifetime to public service. I was a three term elected Board of Education member for the Alameda County schools, a four term elected member of the California State Legistlature and a five term elected California Secretary of State. I was appointed by President Bill Clinton to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia. All of this left little time to pursue non official interests.

However, my interest in painting was aroused about ten years ago when I visited Taiwan to attend a short intensive course in Chinese language and culture. When I returned to California, I painted sporadically and casually between my many public duties with different master artists from Taiwan, China, and the United States that I would meet and the paintings of these different masters fascinated me. Painting became something I yearned to do but for which I found only limited time.

So it is that one of the first things I decided to do when I chose to leave public service and devote full time to an avocation which I had learned to love and enjoy and find much personal satisfaction. I am pleased to share with my many friends this collection of paintings which I completed as Ambassador March Fong Eu (retired). -- March Fong Eu.
