Gift Basket for Teacher

A basket trimmed with dried apple slices makes a wonderful gift for a teacher.

Use these simple directions to design a theme basket for the holidays, baby shower, or birthday. Try different ribbons and botanicals for different looks.

Materials:

1 Brown Basket, 10" Diameter
2 Yards wired ribbon 2-1/2" Width
24 Dried Apple Slices (see below for instructions on drying apple slices)
Assorted Gift Items Of Your Choice

Additional Supplies:

Hot Glue/Gun

Instructions

1. Cut two, 18" lengths of ribbon and make two simple bows. Set the bows aside.

2. Glue the rest of the ribbon to the rim of the basket. Move it back and forth, making small loops and S curves as you glue it down. Glue the bows to the base of each handle.

3. Glue one perfect apple slice to the center of each bow. Glue the rest of the apple slices around the rim of the basket, over the ribbon, and in clusters of two or three.

4. Fill the basket with your choice of goodies for the teacher . You may want to stuff the bottom of the basket with excelsior, tissue, pretty paper or fabric before arranging the gift items.

Drying Apple Slices

Slice fruit into 1/4 inch slices and place on paper towel lined dish. Dip the apple slices in lemon juice to prevent them from discoloring. Cover with more paper towels. Line a glass pie pan with 4 layers of paper towels. Microwave the fruit at 50 percent power for 3 minutes. If your microwave oven does not have a carousel, turn the dish a quarter-turn. Turn the fruit over and arrange the slices on dry areas of the paper towels. Microwave the fruit again at 50 percent power for 2 minutes.

Let the fruit air dry for a day or two. Put the fruit slices on a glass plate that has been lined with paper towels and place in a warm, dry place It will speed up the drying time if you change the towels several times. This will give your slices a better color.
