Strike Master K1 Magnesium Mini Survival Fire Starter
The Strike Master K1 Magnesium Mini Survival Fire Starter will always give you a means for fire starting, or a way to start your camp stove or lantern. It's a long, high-tech "flint" bar imbedded in a bar of magnesium, along with a striker/scraper. Under normal conditions, you can light most dry tinder with just one or two scrapes along the "flint" bar. In more difficult situations, you can even light damp tinder by scraping a pile of magnesium with the attached scraper and direct a spark onto it from the "flint".

In a survival situation, keeping warm is of primary concern. Almost everything else can wait. The K1 "Sparky" Fire Starter is designed for this purpose and is small enough to carry with you at all times. The K1 is made of a stick of flint and a stick of magnesium fused into one unit. It is operated by using the included scraper to shave magnesium flakes into a pile, then again using the scraper on the flint side of the K1 to ignite the magnesium. The magnesium will burn at 5400 degrees making it possible to ignite even damp or green tinder. Because the K1 is designed for 1000 strikes, it is a very reliable and long lasting fire starter. The "Sparky" can also be used as a signaling device as the sparks can be seen for over 3 miles. The K1 "Sparky" fire starter comes complete with flint-magnesium stick, scraper, leather holder or key chain and instructions.
It’s important to have a good fire starter. It’s also important to have some good tinder. We sell some very good tinders here. However, it is also important to use your fire starter at home before you go outdoors. A great project for the budding outdoorsman is making your own tinder. Try the cotton ball and vaseline tinder method. Just get a cotton ball and some vaseline. Get the vaseline throughout the cotton ball, but don’t oversoak it so it’s too wet with vaseline. You’ll need to pull the cotton ball apart a bit to expose the individual threads and throw a spark from you new fire starter. You’ll be amazed at how quickly it catches fire and how long and hot it burns. This is a great project for scout troops as well.
The homemade cotton ball and vaseline tinder is great, but can be messy. Go ahead and also try one or more of our compressed tinders. Another great project is to try different fire starters and tinders to see which works best for you. Again, the bottom line is to learn how to make a fire with your fire starter long before you have to start a fire in a survival situation.
