Illinois Smoke-Free Act becomes law on January 1, 2008.
This law establishes a statewide smoking ban that applies to almost every public place.
Business Owners Responsibility: A proprietor must prohibit smoking in enclosed public places and workplaces and areas near windows and doors. Posting of no smoking signs is required in all public places and places of employment where smoking is prohibited, including at each entrance to the public place or place of employment.
All receptacles for disposing of smoking materials are required to be removed from areas where smoking is prohibited.
