Question: Today was the big day, time to take my new toy and try to get it stuck. But the only thing
that got stuck was my transfer case. IT shifts from H4 n L4 no prob but it wont go back to H2.
ITS STUCK can any body explain the linkage im sure that's where the problem lies. Thank you
Answer: If you are having the same problem I did, try the following: get on a loose surface (i.e., dirt, gravel) and shift while moving. Otherwise you get 'wind up' and shifting is quite difficult. You will get more informed responses than this...

Answer: I sometimes find that my driveline has some binding in it after I have been in 4WD, and in order to shift into 2WD I have to rock back and forth a little while I change from 4H to 2H. There's a trick to it, it's hard to describe, but in reverse, let out on the clutch a little until you just start backing up, then push the clutch in, then shift the T/C. It might take a little experimenting, but this usually works for me.

Answer: It could be a vacuum shift, like my FJ62, in which case the $300 solenoid valve is broken. It's under the hood approximately behind the radio. you can
install a manual three way valve if you don't want to spend the $300. You can just switch the hoses around if you don't use 4wd much. If it's a manual shift transfer case, you can put it in reverse and accelerate quickly in reverse (try to break traction), put in the clutch, and stop.
Then shift the transfer case to 2wd. That does it every time in my FJ40.
