Vapor Lock, Q/A

Question: Hey guys

I was wondering about the vapor lock issue. I have a stock 77FJ40 that vapor locks on most every hot startup.

This may sound like a silly question but does the vapor lock occur in the metal fuel lines or in the carb or both? or?

I have heard of a blower that was used after 78 but I am not familiar with the setup. What exactly does that do and how does that work?

I enjoy using it as a daily driver but the stalling is becoming a real P. I. T. A!!

Thanks in advance for the info

Bill

Answer: Bill, We used to have an old Mustang that would vapor lock all the time. Vapor locking occurs in the fuel lines when they get hot, usually because they are too close to a heat source like the block or manifolds. What we did was follow the fuel lines as they looped around the engine. Once you find a spot that could be too close for comfort, reroute it if you can. Otherwise, some sort of heat shield will help. A good one, although not very good looking, is the SHINY side of aluminum foil. Just wrap the fuel line in it and see if it helps.

Good luck!
