If you choose not to sign up for Yahoo! Product Submit, your products will be removed from Yahoo! Shopping as of March 1, 2004. Please note: This change only affects your participation in Yahoo! Shopping; your Yahoo! Store account will not be affected in any other way.

Questions Answered About Yahoo! Product Submit

When we speak to merchants about Yahoo! Shopping's switch to cost-per-click pricing, many have asked similar questions, and we wanted to address a few of your most pressing issues:

How can I estimate the cost of participating in Yahoo! Product Submit?
To get a rough estimate of what you might pay with cost-per-click pricing:

  1. Go to your Store Manager.
  2. Click "Reference."
  3. Choose "Last 30 days/visits."
  4. Add up all the page views for URLs containing "Yahoo! Shopping" (e.g., http://search.shopping.yahoo.com/).
  5. Multiply that number by the cost-per-click rate for your product category (available at https://productsubmit.adcentral.yahoo.com/sspi/us/pricing).
  6. Then subtract 20% of the total (reflecting your Yahoo! merchant discount) to estimate how much you would pay with cost-per-click pricing.

Of course, the important comparison is the sales volume you generate as a result of your listing. Because the new Yahoo! Product Submit includes improved search relevance, new Yahoo! Shopping traffic may include more highly qualified leads than the traffic you received from the Yahoo! network in the past.

Can I exclude an individual item from Yahoo! Shopping?
Yes. To exclude an individual item from Yahoo! Shopping and ensure that you are not charged for traffic to this item, go to the Store Editor, edit the item, and add "<!--nosearch-->" to the Caption field. Learn more.

How can I control my cost-per-click spending in Yahoo! Product Submit?
After you've signed up for Yahoo! Product Submit, one easy way to manage your cost-per-click spending is to suspend (or turn off) the display of your products in Yahoo! Shopping. You can turn off and turn on your products at any time. Learn more.

Store-Building Tip
How to Customize Pricing Based on Product Options

Do you want to charge an extra $2 on your XXL T-shirts? Would you like to clear out your neon green T-shirt inventory by running a $5-off special? It's easy to calculate custom prices for each item option. You simply add the price change to a specific option in the item's Options field. Below we give examples for adding to or discounting the price of two different styles of T-shirt, with a base price of $11.

Before the price change, the product options for these T-shirts look like this:

Size S M L XL XXL
Color Red Green Blue "Neon Green" "Hot Pink"

Note: Options that contain multiple words and include spaces, like the color neon green are always enclosed in double-quotes in the Options field.

  • Adding to the Price
To automatically add $2 to the price of the XXL T-shirts, you would add "(+$2.00)" to the XXL option selection, like so:
    Size S M L XL "XXL (+$2.00)"

Now, if your base product price for T-shirts is $11, the XXL size option will show up in the cart as $13. Please note: The dollar amount in your pricing changes can be formatted as (+$2.00) or (+$2).

  • Discounting the Price
To automatically subtract $5 from only your neon green T-shirts, you would type "(-$5.00)" next to the Neon Green option, like so:
Color Red Green Blue "Neon Green (-$5.00)" "Hot Pink"

Now if the base product is $11, choosing the Neon Green color option would place the item into your cart at $6.

Use Bidding Tools to Manage Online Advertising

Have you put off online advertising because it seems too time-consuming to manage your online advertising keywords and bids? Are you already doing online advertising but having difficulty making time to manage your bid marketplace?

A third-party automated bidding tool can help you stay in the top three bid positions to maximize your clicks and control your budget. These bid-management tools are designed to track your click-throughs, click costs, and your number of orders, to generate cost-per-order data. This information is then compared to your preset targets, allowing the tool to make real-time bidding decisions. Also, many of these tools include budgeting features and other time-savers.
