By Larry Mueller
Mueller advocates getting started early training the pup when he's young and receptive to
learning. Using the food bowl, collar, and leash, Mueller teaches basic commands, preliminary
conditioning, quartering and running a hunting pattern. He then moves on the introducing
the shotgun and decoys and makes his way through land retrieving, nose training, and water
retrieves. Training is complete with instruction on steadying, blind retrieves, hunting short,
and taking hand signals.
The three-part speed train system:
* choosing the methods which teach dogs with the least investment of time
* building on what the dog has already learned
* never letting a problem develop that will require extra time to correct
