Policy Update
Help Us Fight Fraud and Abuse

Yahoo! takes fraud very seriously -- we are committed to combating fraudulent activity on Yahoo!. In an effort to fight fraud, we are looking closely at incidents of fraudulent and abusive activity in Yahoo! Stores and Yahoo! Shopping.

Fraud and abuse hurt all of us by threatening a customer's sense of security and lowering consumer confidence in online transactions. This raises the cost of doing business both for Yahoo! and for merchants like you. Ultimately, fraud undermines efforts to build loyalty and trust -- effectively increasing the cost of acquiring and serving customers.

What are fraud and abuse?

Engaging in unethical or unfair business practices in violation of the Yahoo! Store Merchant Service Agreement and theYahoo! Shopping Merchant Guidelines is considered abuse. Attempting to avoid paying Yahoo! for hosting fees, revenue share, or other service charges is considered fraud.

Yahoo!'s anti-fraud initiatives:

In order to stay one step ahead of fraudulent activity, we are evaluating unusual or suspicious merchant activity and may involve law enforcement agencies to help prevent and stop fraud. Here are some of the additional steps we've taken or are prepared to take to prevent fraud:

--Evaluating merchant transactions when fraud and/or abuse are suspected.
--Contacting merchants when fraud and/or abuse are alleged
--Creating and enforcing guidelines for identifying fraud and abuse
--Canceling Yahoo! Stores that violate the Merchant Service Agreement and removing violators from Yahoo!
--Reporting fraud to law enforcement agencies

You can help us eradicated fraud and abuse by using the form below to contact Yahoo! if you have reason to suspect fraudulent or abusive activity on Yahoo! Store or Yahoo! Shopping. We need your commitment to fighting fraud and we'll do our best to respond to every concern.

Store Building Tip
Shipping Tables Without Fear

Yahoo! Store software lets you create a custom shipping table to calculate and display shipping rates based on the amount of sale (before or after taxes), number of items, weight of shipment, or number of shipments. Take a deep breath; we're about to describe how to set up shipping rate rules that calculate shipping charges on the fly for you and your customers.

In order to set up a table-based shipping rule, log in to your Store Manager, then follow the steps listed on the Shipping Table help page.

After you finish, give yourself a pat on the back. This isn't rocket science, but it's not exactly point-and-click either. Keep in mind, you can edit this rule anytime by going back to the "Ship Rates" page in your Store Manager and clicking on the "edit" link for that rule in your "Ship Rates" table.

You need to publish your Order Settings column on the Manager page for a new rule or rule change to take effect in your Store.

Learn more about "Ship Rates" from the "Shipping Wizard" section of the page.

You can set up specific shipping method choices on your Order Form through the Ship Methods link on your Store Manager page. For additional information, visit the Store User Guide.

SearchDay: Optimizing Keywords for Search Engines

SearchDay is a free daily newsletter, hosted by the experts at Search Engine Watch, which covers news and resources related to web search. A recent issue focused on optimizing your keywords to improve site performance in search engine results. A panel of search engine marketing specialists presents strategies for choosing the right keywords for your product line and niche. They also link to a variety of tools, such as Overture's Keyword Suggestion Tool that you can use to test and inform your keyword choices.

The insights from SearchDay are relevant to planning a keyword-driven Ad Manager ad campaign on Yahoo!. Here are four guidelines to consider when selecting the keywords on which to base your marketing plans: the popularity of a keyword phrase, the competition for that phrase, marketing relevance, and how well your site content supports your keywords choices.
