LabelOnce erasable labels are designed to be used with permanent (not dry erase) markers. It's important to understand that permanent markers can be erased from LabelOnce surfaces because of the lack of surface porosity. (It's a bit like writing on glass.)
You may find the following information helpful about these popular permanent markers.
#1 above is the SanfordŽ SharpieŽ ultra fine marker which has the words "permanent on most surfaces" imprinted on the markers. It writes beautifully on LabelOnce labels, and it is available in an array of colors. It has a nice balance between permanence and erasability.
#2 above is the SanfordŽ SharpieŽ industrial marker. This marker is a good choice if the ink on your labels will come in contact with womens' makeup, skin oil, certain household cleaners--or if it is unlikely you will ever erase that particular label. The reason? The extra dense ink is more difficult to erase.
#3 above is the SanfordŽ SharpieŽ fine point marker. It has a much larger point than the other markers. We don't recommend it for use on LabelOnce erasable labels for that reason. It's easier to make small, precise erasures to label text written with the Ultra Fine version.
A word about ink density and fading.
Occasionally we field questions from LabelOnce users on which the permanent marker ink appears to have "faded" or become lighter in appearance.
The fading can be due to a combination of things including the environmental factors mentioned in #2 above as well as ultraviolet light.
For example, we have 3.5 disk labels that were written on in the early 1990's in which the ink remains perfectly dense and black. We have other 3.5 disk labels on which the ink appears faded. One difference: many of the labels with faded text have been exposed to sunlight.
In summary, the cleaner the label surface the better for the Ultra Fine marker. If you have oily skin, it's better to wash your hands before applying a label then entering label text. And it's a good practice to store labels written on with the Ultra Fine marker away from strong sunlight.
