by Lydia Maria Child

Lydia Maria Child first published this book on nineteenth-century childhood in 1834 in Boston; it was reproduced throughout the century and again here, in this edition, copied from an earlier version currently housed at Old Sturbridge Village. The Girls’ Own Book will introduce students to the pastimes that characterized a typical New England girlhood nearly two centuries ago, as well as providing insight into the society that supported them.
