Ganesh, or Ganapati, is the elephant-headed son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. His vehicle is a mouse, so that between them they can destroy all obstacles.
Ganesh is one of the most popular Hindu deities, and is always worshipped first, especially before any new undertaking - laying the foundation of a house, beginning a new job, as well as doing any daily prayer or meditation.
The Ganesh statue (shown at left) is located in the Swami Nityananda Temple on the shore of the Ganga on Kashi Ashram.
