Click to enlargepadIn 1806, Lewis and Clark observed this western North American perennial in the valleys of the Rocky Mountains. It was named Linum Lewisii after Capt. Meriwether Lewis. This variety, which is more robust than the common species, bears funnel-shaped, clear blue flowers on slender, somewhat nodding, 2-3 foot stems in early to mid summer. Transfer seedlings to the garden after last frost. Full sun and well drained soil. Herbaceous Perennial. Zones 5-8. (Cult. by 1820s.)zone5, zone6, zone7, zone8, zone9, zone0
