As delicate as lace, these intensely meaningful drawings were made during the period known to Shakers as the Era of Manifestations, 1837-1850. The extensive text helps to decipher their powerful meaning.

Songs would typically come in dreams, trances, or states of possession. Eunice Wyeth received her songs as gold letters that hung from the ceiling of her darkened room, and Joshua Bennet received his from a chorus of angels who sung them while he lay sleeping. page 42
