The catalytic cracking process consists of contacting heavy oil with a powdered catalyst at elevated temperatures to form lighter, more valuable products—mainly gasoline. The modern FCC unit has four main sections: the reactor/regenerator, flue gas treating, main fractionator, and gas recovery.
