by Kent Hughes

Introduction
- Illustration: Hughes begins his sermon with Enoch, a poem by Jones Very that depicts the human tendency to build temples to God without making room for the Lord in the heart. .
Marriage was demonized.
- Although sexless and forbidden to marry, the Sons of God (fallen angels) overtook men's souls and married women, thus infecting the population with evil.
- Genesis 6:1-2
- Striving for fame and fertility, the fallen angels attempted to grasp divinity and immortality though these marriages.
Life was shortened.
- Since man sought immortality through these means, God reduced his lifespan from 900 years to 120 years maximum.
Violence was idolized.
- Through violence, the Nephilim (offspring of these demonized marriages) created a demonized civilization that has recurred throughout history.
- "The Lord saw how great man's wickedness. . .had become and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time."
- Genesis 6:31
Depravity requires God's judgment.
- "The Lord was grieved that he had made man on earth, and his heart was filled with pain."
- Genesis 6:6
- "So the Lord said, 'I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth-men and animals. . .creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air. . .."
- Genesis 6:7
God's grace is our only hope of salvation.
- Although Noah was a righteous man unlike the others, he "...found favor in the eyes of the Lord" solely because of God's grace.
- Genesis 6:8
- So it will be when Christ comes again: although man will have corrupted the earth to the point of utter depravity, God's grace alone will save us.
- Matthew 24:37-39
