Product Description

What do Balzac, Dumas, Flaubert, Tolstoy, Machiavelli, Tasso, Luther, Ibsen, and Goethe have in common? They are all on the same 2-CD set with 2713 books.

Intended for use with PCs (Windows or Linux) and recent Macs (OS X), our World Literature 2-CD set currently contains the full text of 2713 books in plain text format, organized for easy access. At a price of $49, that amounts to a little more than 2 cents per book.

"World literature" means works of prose and poetry originally written in languages other than English. The majority of these texts are in English translation; some are in the original languages; others are in both the original and English. Some of those in the original language the English alphabet without accents. Others include the accents of the original language, but using techniques that may not work with all software and all setups. (For instance, the accented Stendhal texts might be difficult to view on your system.) Whenever possible, we include both accented and unaccented versions.

You can see the complete table of contents below. Use the Find function on your browser to search for specific authors or books. You can see suggestions on how to get the most out of your plain-text books on CD ROM at our home Web site. Use the back button on your browser to return here.
