Active Ingredients:
DHA modifies cell membranes by changing the lipid structure of the membrane in such a way as to
actually affect how the cell accepts signals, such as hormone signals. It also affects the movement of
molecules within the cell, which affect organelles in the cell such as the mitochondria. Mitochondria are
the principal energy source of the cell. Incorporating DHA into the mitochondrial membranes improves
the function of the membrane and enhances mitochondrial ability to create cellular energy.
In addition to improving cell membrane response to hormones, DHA improves function of brain and nerve
tissue through docosahexaenoic acid signaling pathways, which decrease inflammation and support
normal nerve function. These pathways may be affected in stroke, age-related macular degeneration,
spinal cord injury, Alzheimer's disease, and other diseases that include neuro-inflammatory components.
Proper function of these pathways are involved in memory function, learning ability, and proper sleep.
Post-menopausal women, who often have low levels of docosahexaenoic acid and other fatty acids, can
reduce their risks of osteoporosis, heart disease and estrogen dependent cancers by improving both
DHA & EPA levels. In bone, DHA increases calcium content in bone significantly more so than EPA.
For men, both DHA and EPA inhibit androgen-stimulated cell growth and androgen induced prostatespecific
antigen (PSA) protein in a dose-dependent manner.
In animal studies, DHA lowered aldosterone 33% and corticosterone 18%, diminishing the stress
response action and associated hypertension by directly affecting steroid hormone metabolism.
Blood sugar metabolism is improved by the ability of DHA to improve insulin sensitivity and function by
increasing the number of available insulin receptor sites on the plasma membrane.
Cardiac function is improved, and the mitochondria in heart cells (which require a lot of energy) are
protected by DHA. Both EPA & DHA can act as precursors for anti-inflammatory prostaglandins decrease
the formation of pro-inflammatory prostaglandin, thereby reducing inflammation induced atherosclerosis.
DHA is the precursor of neuroprotective docosanoids, which contribute to cellular function, protection,
and repair in the nervous system; improving brain, spinal cord, retina, and peripheral nerve function, and
decreasing diseases that affect them. Low DHA levels adversely influence mental performance and
behavior, and have been correlated with neurological changes in disposition, memory and vision.
Each peakomeaga3 is derived from marine lipid concentrate and processed by molecular distillation to
eliminate heavy metals PCBs and other toxins to below detectable levels for human consumption, without
