"Using an Interactive Protocol to Determine the Etiology of Hypoxemia" by Robert Demers, BS, RRT, of Demers Consulting Services.
Hypoxemia is frequently detected in patients for whom ABG analysis is performed. This module
allows the members of the caregiver team to undertake “data mining” in order to ascertain the
cause of hypoxemia from the data already provided. You’ll understand the concepts of shunting
and ventilation/perfusion mismatching as never before, thanks to lucid graphics (13 Figures in
all). And you’ll be supplied with an interactive protocol that can be used to discriminate between
age-induced changes in PaO2, hypoventilation, shunting, and V/Q mismatching, allowing you to
intelligently select the appropriate mode of therapy within moments of receiving the ABG report.
A post-test is available for this module, at an additional charge, that is accredited by the California Board of Registered Nurses for 3.0 RCP credit hours and 3.6 RN credit hours. Through reciprocity, these credits are recognized throughout the US. Contact Demers Consulting Services (BobDemers@aol.com) for information.
