Pedro's Fest - LANESBOROUGH, Mass. (July 21, 2005) David "Tinker" Juarez will be a special guest at the 11th Annual Pedro's Mountain Bike Festival, Aug. 5-7 in Western Massachusetts' Berkshire Mountains. After success in BMX during the 1970s, Juarez crossed over to mountain bike racing in 1986. He has been America's most consistent international racer. Juarez won three NORBA national championships, earned a spot on two Olympic teams, won a Pan American gold medal, and earned a berth in the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. Long after most of his contemporaries retired, Juarez moved into the world of endurance racing, winning four 24 Hour Solo National Titles. At 44, he continues to race endurance events and has announced plans to compete in the 2006 Race Across America.

But Juarez is especially noted for his rapport with fans. He is often seen working with first-time mountain bike riders and kids, helping them to develop their skills.

"I think that going to Pedrosfest is a chance to meet a lot of people who want to know about and have fun with cycling," said Juarez. "I've gotten so much out of mountain biking but it's also good get back to the sport by just going out and riding with a bunch of people and not worrying about who's going to beat who."

The 11th annual Pedro's Mountain Bike Festival will return to the Berkshires Aug. 5-7. The largest mountain bike festival in America, "Pedrosfest" is a rendezvous for cyclists of all ages, types, and abilities. Although the festival retains its muddy mountain bike heritage, this three-day extravaganza is also about music, great food, camping, and family oriented activities. The musical acts have always been highlights of the festival, with bands playing Saturday night. A favorite event for families looking for a quieter evening has been the outdoor "ride-in" movie theater held Friday night.

Increasingly road cycling events have been included in the schedule to complement the fat tire offerings. This year will also see the Mavic Charity Marathons held Saturday morning. These include two different rides to Mount Greylock, a mountain bike ride to raise funds for the Lymphoma Research Foundation and a road ride to benefit the Tyler Hamilton Foundation.

One of the great features of the festival is the large selection of demo bikes offered by leading manufacturers. There is also a huge selection of components, clothing, and accessories in the expo area.

The 11th Annual Pedro's Mountain Bike Festival will be held Aug. 5-7 at Lanesborough, Mass. For more information visit www.pedrosfest.com, send e-mail to info@pedrosfest.com, or call 781.871.9824.

Rattling Creek Bike Bash - Event: 5th Annual RCST MTB Bash Where: Camp Muckle-Ratz, Elizabethville, PA

Greetings Trail Comrades,

Final plans and details are worked out for the 5th Annual RCST Mountain Bike Bash. The dates are September 15 (evening) , 16, 17, and 18 2005. Thursday night camping will be available again.

This year will feature a chili cookoff on Friday evening. We'll have two categories; HOT and MILD. The winners will be selected by all of you (the people) who want to do some taste tests and vote for your favorite. Only one vote for each category will be allowed. Because of time constraints we are going to allow participants to make the chili at home and heat it up on Friday evening, or you can make it on site if you want to, it's up to you. There are no limits on ingredients, use beans, corn, pasta, hamburger, or any meat you want to use. We will be providing small cups (4-6 ounce) for taste testing. We'll also have some kind of palet cleansers (crackers, cheese) so you get a true taste of each participants chili. If you're planning on participating in the cookoff please make enough so that a good amount of voters get to taste your masterpiece (6-8 quarts). If you want to re-coup some of the cost of the ingredients please feel free to charge for your samplings (25 cents per sample would probably cover most of the costs). So if you think you make a mean chil, RCST says "PROVE IT".

Returning this year will be a swap meet, huffy toss, and a "King and Queen of Rock's Ridge" contest and the CAT\Park Tool School with Damian Miller. Of couse we will be having Gonder's Grubhouse doing a chicken barbeque again, beverage tasting, live music, rides for everyone, plenty of swag, and plenty of mountain bike camaraderie. We will have warm showers again this year.

If you plan on entering the chili cookoff please let us know and which category, HOT, MILD, or both. If bringing items for the swap meet, please drop us a line telling us what items you have so we can add them to the list.

So don't hesitate, sign up now. As always attendance is limited to 150 people.
