
1. Put on your usual walking shoes.
2. Stand in a naturally upright position with your feet about 12" apart.
3. Let your arms fall to the side naturally.
4. Using a tape measure or yard stick, have a second person measure the distance from the wrist bone down to the floor.
5. This measurement is "cane length", the length for a person transfering a significant portion of their weight to the stick. A walking stick SHOULD NEVER BE SHORTER THAN CANE LENGTH.
6. Depending on your age, health, and height you add 1"-3" to "cane length" for your walking stick. The younger, healthier, and taller you are the more you add.
